Scooters are automatic, so there are no gears or clutch to think about: twist and go. A step-through frame, a flat footboard and storage under the seat make them easy to live with for daily commuting, and the bigger maxi-scooters add the power and comfort for highway trips.

Choosing a scooter

Licence: a B2 licence covers motorcycles up to 250cc, B1 up to 500cc, and the full B licence covers all engine sizes.
Engine size: 125 to 200cc is ideal for city riding. 250cc and above is more relaxed on the highway, especially with a passenger.
Storage: check how much space there is under the seat if you carry a helmet or shopping every day.
